Date: 09:00-12:00 12 November, 2016

Venue: Samsung Hall, Yonsei University, Seoul, Republic of Korea

This workshop provides hands-on training in constructing theory, collecting data, doing data analysis, and writing scholarly papers that apply quantitative and qualitative case study research (CSR) methods.  This workshop focuses on building participants¡¯ skills for using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (FS/QCA) and in developing skills in doing research and writing papers that editors accept for publication in A* and A SSCI ranked journals—the workshop includes hands-on training in using the fsQCA.com software (free software at fsQCA.com) and nitty-gritty details on how to do research to publish in SSCI journals.

Brief Description of Coverage:  CSR theory construction includes mapping out the flow of events, decision processes, and outcomes in contexts and the use of multiple data analysis methods for theory testing.  FS/QCA applies Boolean algebra for testing consistency and coverage of alternative causal recipes (configurations of moderately complex antecedent conditions) to explain an outcome.

Participants¡¯ Take-Aways:  During the workshop, to achieve hands-on skills, participants complete individual and group exercises in applying each of the five methods.  Participants receive skill-building readings on how match case-based theory and data analysis and an electronic copy of Case Study Research:  Theory ∙ Methods ∙ Practice(Emerald Publishing, 2010) which includes comprehensive chapters on using each of the 14 case study methods.  Each participant receives an invitation to send his or her CSR paper for review and comment by the workshop¡¯s trainer.

Workshop Trainer:  Arch G. Woodside, Professor of Marketing, Curtin University, is the lead workshop trainer.  Arch is the current Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Global Scholars of Marketing Science, former Editor-in-Chief (1975-2015), Journal of Business Research.  He is the author of the workshop exercises-solutions and the CSR textbook of the workshop.  His own articles using CSR methods appear in the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Applied Psychology, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing, and Journal of Travel Research.  Arch is a member and Fellow of APA, APS, Royal Society of Canada, International Academy for the Study of Tourism and the Society for Marketing Advances.  Research authored and co-authored by Arch has received more than 16,700+ citations and this work has an  H-index equal to 59 and a Google 1-10 index of 250 —250 articles/books each have been cited ten-plus times.

Tuition: Included in the international conference registration fee for 2016 KSMS International Conference for the participants who paid USD 250 for KSMS active/current member conference registration or USD 300 for new KSMS member conference registration; or USD 100 for this workshop only.

Tuition benefits includes instruction, an electronic copy of the CSR book, the training program workbook and coffee breaks, and a personal written commentary on one paper (co)authored by each participant.  Each participant needs to bring his/her PC laptop with a copy of fs/qca.com installed (free at fsqca.com).  The workshop includes all instruction, workbook exercises and solutions, textbook, personal follow-up review of participants¡¯ research and manuscript by the trainer, and coffee/tea breaks (lunch is not included).  Attendance is limited so please reserve early.
